What is a Blog?

A blog is a very simple online communication tool. It is a popular alternative to a teacher web page because of it's ease of use. If you can use email, you can set-up and maintain a current blog.

Highlights:
  • Teachers enter text using a word-processor like feature and update blogs with the click of a button.
  • Blogs can be updated from any computer with Internet access.
  • Choose from a variety of ready-made templates with colors and layout options that can be modified, like this one. There is no need to design anything.
  • Ease of use allows teachers to provide current updated information in an electronic format. Options for automatically emailing parents when blogs are updated exist.
  • It's easier and takes far less time than creating and publishing a weekly newsletter.
  • New entries shows up at the top, so your visitors can read what's new. You can turn on or off features which allow visitors to comment on your blog.
It only takes about 10 minutes to set-up and post your blog. Illustrated directions and samples of blogs created by D97 teachers can be found on the right side of this page.
